"What was..." Shin's voice trails off, and his eyes narrow. "school like? Well. The first year we had the seniors with us, and that year was probably the best year. But then they got captured - by Nami, we later found out - and then we were all transferred to a new location. Shortly after the second school year for us started up, I got Chiyo's head and all this started. Despite hearing everything that was going on, everything was still so normal, so surreal, that - "
Shin pauses, cut off by Alice's touch and words. For once, he's at a simple loss of words and can do nothing but stare at her and tears glazing her eyes and words cascading out like a waterfall.
"I'm not beyond redemption?" The last bit breaks Shin out of said trance and he feels like laughing. "Alice, you're far too kind for your own good. Y'know, what if all that I had just told you was simply a lie to get you all over to my side, maybe feeling some pity? You could be dead by now."
As if to emphasize his point, Shin makes a finger gun and points it at Alice's head, letting out a little bang with his mouth. "See? You're...you're too good for this world. I'm glad you were lucky enough to survive."
"As for why all of you have survived, while the others have not," Shin turns back to them all and frowns, gently swatting Alice's hand away (and trying hard, hard not to look at her face in fear there might be tears on it) "it was all just a luck of the draw. I wanted to see - I wanted to see where this would...where it would go. After Taro's death. I wanted to punish you all for letting him die. It was all a red haze then, honestly, and I couldn't think straight for weeks on end."
"And that brings us to here." Shin frowns. "Now, what're you all gonna do once I'm gone?"

He was right about one thing. She could be dead right now, but she wasn't. Too good for this world?
Sure, sure. Call it what you want. But she was far from perfect. She began to blink back the tears, finally coming to grips with the reality of Four's insanity. There WAS hope for him if...if only his heart wasn't so hardened that he couldn't accept it. Even if she offered it he would never accept her forgiveness, or the possibility at rebuilding his life.
He was a survivor, but he wasn't living. He was hanging on by a thread and she could see the individual strings beginning to fray as the weight of his self loathing, guilt, and shame were weighing him down.
For a fraction of a second her face flinched in contempt, but she immediately assumed a different composure. "Live." She had to keep herself from spitting the word at him, using all of her self control to deliver it with some air of grace - or at least, respectfully, even though he didn't deserve it.
"I will live. And I'll take whatever /good/ I have left in me and reach out to the people who've been left broken and destitute. I would suggest you do the same, but judging from your previous remark, something tells me you wouldn't be wiling to /hear/ or even consider that, even though you might /listen/."
"But you should know, that in doing all of this -" she paused, then clarified. "THIS, that is, this game of life and death you've put together for us - you've only ended up punishing yourself. And I'm sure you know THAT by now, and if you don't I can expound on it, but if you need proof of the effect that your lifestlye has had on you, you need only to take a look in the mirror."
There were tears streaming down her face now, but her face and her voice remained calm.
"Nevertheless. I still stand by my statement that you are not beyon redemption, but if you've already rejected the idea of that in your heart of hearts then there is no one to help you but you. You can say to me that I'm too good for this world, but if that's what yoh think, then you've certainly been away from what's REALLY good and true for far too long."
Deep breath.
"What I mean to say is, I want to help you Four. Yes, even after all you've done. No, I don't condone or affirm any of your actions up to this point, and I don't think you're by any means alright, but that doesn't mean you can never become better than you are now. That's up to you though. But before you try to tell me to shut up, or that I don't know what I'm talking about - answer me this. What is it that you really want? What are you really searching for among all of this bloodshed and all of these dehumanizing experiences? You may be insane but do not tell me that you did all of this just because, because I know you were still capable of love - even if it was weak - for Taro. And that means you are still capable of hate, regret, and any other emotion that you've let settle like sediment in the wells of your emotions."

"And if it was all for revenge and vengeance then I can with no question assure yo uthat you've acheived your goal. If your goal was to get revenge against humanity, which is the source of all wickedness and ultimately your sister's death, then you really did succeed by wiping them all out. I would commend you, but I think both you and I can admit, that murder and what I assume was genocide, is not so worthy of commendation. Because even though you have done so much wrong in your life, there's still a part inside of you that knows right from wrong, even if you've long sibce stopped listening to your conscience."

Shin hesitates, frowns, thinks. "What I...want?" He muses. "Back then it was some sort of some respite. I wanted to detach myself. From humanity, from the world. Even if it meant losing my humanity. I mean, I did, no questions about that. But after a while I just grew..."
He smiles. "Tired. I'm just so, so tired, Alice. You have no idea how much I want to rest. I want to take a break. I really believe that you really want to help me - I'm flattered, honestly. If you're still able to feel sympathy towards me, a terrorist, a serial killer, a mass murderer, and leave some sort of impression, then you'll be able to save so many more souls once you get out of here. It's not like I wrecked the whole world, after all - just parts of Japan. If you go back, some of your family's might still be alive. Given time, I'm sure you can all," He looks each of them in the eye, "find a way to rebuild your lives again. Find a lover. Settle down. You're the hopes for the world, after all."
Shin turns back to Alice. "I like to think..." He inhales deeply. "that I do have some sort of conscience left. I managed to spare you guys, at least. There's...there's got to be some good in me somewhere for doing that, at least, right?"
With trembling hands, Shin withdraws a key from his pocket and gives it to Alice. "If you go to the Captain's Cabin and turn the ship on with this, it'll go into auto drive and sail you to the nearest port. I've reprogrammed the Monosharks, so they won't attack you anymore - they will, however, fend off any dangers of the sea. You're free to turn them off or on at any time, or even give them specific commands. They'll let you ride them. It's quite fun, actually, I recommend doing so in your free time." Shin chuckles.
"It'll take you maybe seven or eight days to get back, depending on the weather. You're in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and since Japan is in a questionable state, I'm sending you guys to the coast of California. The people there should take you right in - you've been all over the news, after all. Every once in a while I send a video about all of your guys's condition, though I haven't sent one in a month or two. Either way, they'll know your situation and take you under their wing."
Shin takes a step back from the group, smiling a little. "I...I-I've heard." He starts, "that death is like going to sleep after a very, very long day. If that's so, then I think it would be almost to good for me - "
(tw: suicide)
He withdraws a long, thin knife from his sleeve.
" - to sleep."
He poises the knife above his stomach, holding it with both hands. Tears stream shamelessly down his face, and for one moment, it looks like he's truly happy.
"I'm so, so tired."
With that, he plunges the knife deep into his stomach. Almost immediately, he spits out blood, painting the deck in shades of pink as he stumbles backwards, tripping over the railing and falling into the sea.
You're too stunned to move until you hear a distant splash as his body hits the water. Immediately, you run over to see what's happened - but Shin's body is already sinking below the surface, water turned pink around him.

(( f e e l s))
"What will I do once I'm put of here...?" The girl couldn't really wrap her mind around it; the thought seemed so...surreal. After being trapped on the boat for who knows how long, she was beginning to forget how things worked in the world. Not that things would be the same, of course, with the world in apocalypse and all, but still, the idea seemed to shock her all the same.
"I-It'll be a shock to see what the world is, in its current state..." she began slowly, afraid of rubbing Four the wrong way. "A-And the fact that my parents are..." the girl took a shuddering breath in, and wiped her face with her shirt sleeve, not wanting the painful reminder.
"...I'd like to do the things I promised to everybody," she said quietly. "...R-Raise a hamster with Ennosuke, get over smoking with Aisu..." She squeezed Kat's hand tighter now. "...Maybe even...I don't know...go on a couple of dates with Kat...?"
The girl stopped suddenly, seeing the knife in Four's hand.
"W-Wait, what are you...?"
The girl didn't get the chance to stop him as he plunged the knife into his chest and fell into the water.
Throwing Kat's hand out or her grasp, she ran over to the ledge to where the knife was floating.
"...Four?" she asked quietly, voice shaking and her eyes wide with shock.
The girl began to cry. It was over.

Aisu stared into the water, eyes wide, he was dead...Shin was dead, it scared her how easily someone could do that, how easily life can slip anyway from you, she was one of the lucky ones. Many questions still unanswered, the hockey player was concerned, confused, tired.
She didn't want people to take her right in as soon as they got to the port, she wanted to run away from anyone insight, yet she might as well accept it, breaking the shocking silence Aisu spoke up once more, "Lets..." She took a breath,
"Lets go home.."
(god this must be terrible im sorry)

And the thread holding him finally snapped. She'd seen it coming. She knew... she knew by the look on his face when she saw him in the cabin that he wasn't just insane, but so miserable that he wanted to end it all.
She could understand, yet at the same time... she rushed to the railing, holding the key in her hands with a strength in her grip she didn't even know she had left in her. Seeing so much gore over the past few ... months, probably ... had desensitized her to the gore that unfolded in front of her eyes, but she hated to see him so far gone. And now she was left with the key.
Now I have to get us to safety. He entrusted that task to her, and now she had to put everyone else before herself. Now was not the time to weep in sorrow over the last life lost on this ship. Now was time to suck it up and get them somewhere where they all could get help.
(will wait,,,f or others to reply before alice , , says things i guess idk)

NVM
Alice nodded at Aisu's words. "Not our old home, a new one." She stood up straight, feeling a knot in her stomach. "I'll go to the captain's cabin. If you could all..." she look around at everyone, "..come with me. Just... I just want to make sure you're all..."
Deep breaths. She just didn't want anyone to do what Shin just did.
"Safe."

Aisu didn't want to cry, yet before she knew it she had tears streaming down her face, "Y-Yeah, a new home, I-I guess..." The girl then followed Alice into the captains cabin, trying her best to hide her face, due to the ugly sobbing that would occur.
