Don't Call the Ambulance I Just Broke Some Bones

Desmond nodded and left the room, closing the door behind him.

Desmond opened the door again. "So look, your probably going to have to manage with the ribs. I'm sure as hell not doing open chest surgery here. They seem cracked so don't run too much or bend over much and you'll be fine. I'll probably have to put you in a wheelchair for a while anyway so you won't bend down as much."

"Good." Desmond said, "So I'll need to get you to lie on that table, so this'll be difficult...."

Desmond helped her up from the chair, then made sure she leaned against one of the tables, as he thought of what to do to get her on to one. Crap. What the hell was he supposed to do now? Two people are needed to operate a stretcher... and it would probably be best if no one discovered that Eiko was suicidal, for her sake. Hmm... Desmond forgot why he never bothered to use the nurses room for his operation - after all, the beds were comfier there. Oh well. "I'll probably have to put you to sleep right now, so I can get you on the table with minimum pain. You ok with that?"

Desmond smiled again. No. He wouldn't let himself get attached. The smile dropped as he prepared the mask, cleaning it. Once he did this, he brought chair over to her for her to sit on. "So I'll go searching for a wheelchair in a bit, but for now you'll just have to be dealing with getting pushed while sitting in a chair." he said. God he was feeling unprofessional. "I'll push you over to the table, put the mask on, then once your asleep, I'll move you up to the table and operate. Just a warning, I can't exactly irradiate my tools to reduce the chance of infection, so there is a hopefully quite a small chance of your leg getting infected. To be honest though, the antiseptic should clean anything unwanted out."

Desmond pushed the chair she was sitting on carefully over to the table, wincing at the sound the chair made scraping against the floor. He put the mask on and switched on the gas, taking a deep breath. (Timeskip?)

Desmond, who was now in his surgeon scrubs, let out a sigh of relief. Next to the table was a wheelchair, and the incision he had made into her thigh was stitched and covered with a cast. He attached Eiko to a drip for now, just so she wouldn't scream in pain when she woke up. For once, Desmond felt the feeling that he felt when he was working with his mother... that sense of achievement. That he had actually saved a life - Or at least made that life easier. He collapsed back into the chair, tired, waiting for Eiko to wake up.
