Methamphetamine? Some other kind of drug maybe? Maybe she was drugged so killing her would be easier.

Fermata, to distract herself from the blood, because the scent (that she wasnt sure if she was imagining or not) was making her breathing uneaven, sent her mind into overdrive. chemical properties of matter. specifically crystals, minerals, and similar objects. the luster, which wouldnt work in this case considering it was a powder- oh god she needed rubbing alcohol the smell should be enough to keep her from fainting- wait the /smell/ could be used to identify. the bear never said not to sniff the powder! "c-couldnt w-we us-se the sense of s-smell t-to f-find out w-what the p-p-powder is?" "Ah yes, smell the scary substance that killed a teenager. Very safe" Nanashi said, snark ever so present "Besides even if we need, I doubt the majority of us are able to identify what it is" she winced at the remark. she had only been trying here.

It took a solid few minutes for Paris to breathe normally again. Moment after moment passed, and they choked quietly on their fear in short, small, breathless sobs. It took monumental effort to hold it back, to hold their breath and stifle the strange coughing noises that plagued their thoughts. Their arms were firmly crossed over their chest, hugging themselves tight. Between bodies, they could still make out the... The corpse. She was pretty, pretty screwed up; they gave a small hiccup of a sob, staring giddily straight ahead. The cup, the cup with the white powder... If this was a murder mystery, it would be arsenic. If they were going by common sense, it'd be rat poison. Both were white powders right? They'd heard that in the country, animals accidentally poisoned by badger baiting... Their mind swum, it was difficult to focus on one sole task.
'M-maybe-' they croaked, sounding a little breathless and raggedy, that strangely both bewildered and horrified expression still hung like a shroud over their face. They took a deeper breath, loosening their grip on their chest. 'Maybe the poison was mixed in the cup? Whatever it is doesn't seem wet? I doubt s-she would've eaten it like, well, like that..' They hiccuped again, eyes flicking to the floor.

Misoka weaved through the crowd. "OY! NUMBER NAME GUY, YOU SEEM TO BE TAKING CHARGE!" Peering into the box with the powder, she squinted. Hm. Well, there was an idea. She climbed up next to Four. "OY, GUYS!" She hoped she had gotten someone's attention. "IF WE FIND THE OBJECTS THAT WERE IN THIS BOX, MAYBE WE'LL FIND THE MURDERER!" Missy hopped off and stood next to the stand Four had taken.

Nanashi was struck with an idea, the first of very few. "You know this brings me back to something that happened two years ago. There was a cult that commissioned me, and it was a failed mission, but well I still remember it pretty clearly" She continued "We planned on rupturing a couple bags of powdery stuff like this, to produce toxic amounts of gas". "And I'm sure one of you knows what type of gas I'm talking about! Hopefully.." "Unfortunately I do not, Nanashi. Care to elaborate?" Tomoko asked, thinking through his head of possible powders that would become a toxic gas.

"I would suggest that maybe it was powdered arsenic, but there's no way that she should have died so quickly. There would have been warning signs of arsenic poisoning, at the very least." Four tilted his head in confusion. "She should've been puking or swelling..." "Such as vomiting blood?" Tomoko pressed, his eyes focusing on Four's mask. "Close but no cigar. If were are assuming the poison was ingested via a liquid, her lungs should not have been effected in such a short time. It's very likely there might be another, faster acting toxin in the powder." Arsenic usually didn't kill people within 24 hours, no matter how much is ingested. It could've even taken four days, but the cup in the kitchen was obviously from last night...

Juliet asked, frowning thoughtfully.

Yeah we used that, though I don't quite remember the name, but I recall mixing it up with some other pretty nasty stuff, and Wah-lah!" she cheered, halfheartedly "We ended up accidentally putting two team members in the operation, but at least it worked in the end"

Aisu thought a bit more, a white powder that could kill someone. 'Nothing that can do with drugs, nor steroids, it can't be powdered sugar, nor crystallized sugar, and it couldn't be medication.' Her expression changed to a stern one, Aisu soon decided to walk closer to the murder scene.

The realization hit Darren hard. "Guys, it's cyanide!" He shouted.

That sounded like a good idea, but if only the murder had happened sooner. "I assume the murderer isn't exactly an idiot. No doubt they've disposed of whatever it was already... All they had to do was toss it off the side of the ship and there's a good chance we'd never find it again."

She melded back with the crowd, mulling it over.

"Many cyanides are highly toxic. The cyanide anion is an inhibitor of the enzyme cytochrome c oxidase (also known as aa3) in the fourth complex of the electron transport chain (found in the membrane of the mitochondria of eukaryotic cells). It attaches to the iron within this protein. The binding of cyanide to this enzyme prevents transport of electrons from cytochrome c to oxygen. As a result, the electron transport chain is disrupted, meaning that the cell can no longer aerobically produce ATP for energy. Tissues that depend highly on aerobic respiration, such as the central nervous system and the heart, are particularly affected. This is an example of histotoxic hypoxia" she didnt remember where she had learned that, but apparently before coming to school she had a very good tutor.
